About Us

Taigum Child-Edu Care Centre is a real family owned and operated child-care provider which is open Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00pm, 52 weeks per year, we are only closed on approved QLD public holidays.

We provide a warm, welcoming, caring and educational space for children from 6 weeks to 6 years of age.

We are set on one acre of land on a no-through road, which is just one of the things that makes our Edu-Care Centre a stand out option for your child and family.

Our community is diverse and works together to create one large and supportive environment for children, families and educators to grow and develop within.

Among our family of childcare professionals we speak 13 languages. Our passionate, qualified teachers and educators nurture healthy minds and celebrate each child’s individual strengths, so they are supported to achieve their full potential through a well-balanced early years learning environment.

Our play based, child led program supports each individual in our care in meeting their own individual developmental and learning needs.

All our educators are dedicated to embedding a love of nature with the children.

Not all child care is the same, our focus is family.

Our dedicated team of qualified early childhood professionals are committed to their positions, their charges, their families and their profession. They go above and beyond to support our children, our families, our community and each other.

Our educators are supported to fulfil their professional roles within our environment and through training and professional development. As a collective group they reflect on their practices and are committed to on-going improvement.

Nickname: Daph-in-nee

Our beautiful centre makes me feel happy, loved, like we’re a family, I’m at home. I am very proud of our diversity.

My favourite things about working with children are their honesty, e.g. they say why do you have a walking stick, they seek me out and want to connect and engage with me.

I was born in Sri Lanka, where family is treasured, children are celebrated and education is valued.

I just love to talk to the children about their world and what is important to them.

The most important thing an educator can do is to be totally available for the children in their care.

Hello me name is Janine and I am Daph in nees daughter. I am an early childhood teacher and the children call me JJean, Neen and Jean. Mum and I opened the service in 1997. I designed the site around the concept of SPACE and natural beauty. Mum adores beautiful gardens and wanted the children to be surrounded by nature. I wanted usable , practical teaching spaces that allow participants to feel comfortable and access equipment easily.

The three separate wings were designed so that the children are not overwhelmed.

Mum and I are active components of the service, it is our passion and our love. We are Sri lankan and in our culture family and education are highly valued.

Come and visit us, and also many other services before you make your decision about enrolling your child. Not all childcare is the same, as we have our heart at the core of our centre.

Meet Gwen Butler, our Centre Director and Educational Leader. Gwen brings a wealth of experience to our team, and has a passion for quality early education and advocating for the child’s voice.

Our licensee Daphne is an amazing woman with an amazing story. You can read about her above, but also check out this article from the Chermside Guide.

Our administration team are onsite and available at all times to assist current families and prospective families with inquiries.

There is no need to make a time or an appointment to visit the centre for a tour, everyone is welcome to call in during our opening ours at a time that fits in with your family and your busy schedule.

Our Community

We work in partnerships with our families to aid in smooth transitions into the centre, to provide the best possible outcomes for children and to achieve common goals that are set on enrolment or at the beginning of each new year.

We access the wider community wherever and whenever the opportunity arises for us. We recognise and acknowledge that connecting with our wider community network aids in supporting healthy development and welbeing for children, families and educators.

Our community is built through connecting with our families, our educators, our children, our support networks and our wider community links. We seek and value the input from each of these stakeholders to assist us in building the ‘real’ community that Taigum Child Edu-Care Centre is and the beliefs that it reflects.

We see our community as an ever growing and changing element of our centre depending on who is involved at the time.
